Choosing A Proper Term Paper Format

Academic paper format usually means a set of rules and recommendations created by certain groups of specialists as to formatting academic papers, namely font size, text layout on theĀ  page, making in-text citations and references, including creating the reference page, etc. There are a few formattingĀ  styles which are the most commonly used for writing term papers, and below there is a small list of those.

  • APA formatting style. This is a very commonly used term paper format for all kinds of topics related to social sciences. APA style is the style offered by the specialists American Psychological Association, and the guidelines are stated in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, (6th ed., 2nd printing).   • MLA formatting style. This type of academic formatting style was offered by the experts of Modern Language Association and is predominantly used for writing various term papers and other academic papers in the fields of psychology and arts.   • Chicago formatting style. This is a less common type of term paper formatting, though sometimes it can also be used in universities or colleges. General guidelines for this formatting style can be found in the 16th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Turabian formatting style. It is one of the oldest developed style of academic paper and term paper format which is attributed to Kate L. Turabian, an American educator and education promoter of the beginning of the 20th century. It is recommended using Turabian style for writing term papers in history and literature. In the most of the situations, the required style for term paper format is given to the students along with the instructions as to writing the academic paper. However, sometimes it is up to the student to choose the best and the most suitable formatting style. If you do not know what to do and what style to choose, you can consult your instructor or your teacher who’ll help you with choosing the best one. Or, you can ask for help someone of your fellow students or senior students who have great experience in academic writing and can render you some help. Make sure to pay a close attention to every detail and every little piece of information as to using the chosen formatting style for your term paper. Also, using some examples of formatting style can be a great idea, especially when dealing with references and in-text citations.
